I recently decided to welcome a playful little kitten into my home, and it has been quite the adventure. Boots is a little ball of energy that is extremely playful. My roommate brought the cat home after our friend's cats had birthed kittens and he was looking to give them away. At first when I was asked, I was hesitant. I did not think that my roommate and I's busy schedules would be able to accommodate a pet, as we are constantly out of the apartment working.
When I saw Boots for the first time, my beliefs changed. Boots is an extremely outgoing and social cat that loves to chase feather toys and sneak into my bed when I am sleeping. Despite the fact that I like to play with the cat during my free time, I hate when he bites and attacks me. It’s like he has a radar for when I’m working or scrolling through my phone, and suddenly, out of nowhere, he pounces and starts gnawing at me. I try to distract him with toys, but often times that does not work effectively.
I have always been a dog person, and growing up my experiences with animals were only with dogs. However, Boots has made me appreciate cats more, and he has changed my perspective on cats in general. I am glad that my roommate chose to keep Boots, and I help him take care of the cat now. Hopefully, he learns soon to stop biting me.
It's heartwarming how quickly Boots won you over and shifted your perspectives on cats. I also think that kittens can be challenging, but it sounds like you are adjusting well and finding joy in the companionship despite the occasional biting!
ReplyDeleteWe need to see a picture of Boots in class! I have always been a dog person as well, but my parents would never let me get one. Getting a pet seems like a very fun project, but as you mentioned, it does take time and effort. During the COVID lockdown, my friend and I drove to a farm to New Jersey to buy baby ducks. We bought them for a measly $3 each and raised them until they had almost quadrupled in size.
ReplyDeleteBringing home a new kitten really does sound like an adventure! Boots sounds like such a lively and mischievous little cat, always keeping you on your toes. It’s funny how pets have a way of winning us over, even when we’re hesitant at first. I totally get the struggle with those unexpected pounces when you’re just trying to relax or get some work done—cats definitely have a knack for that! It’s great to hear that Boots has shifted your perspective on cats, though, and that you’re both adjusting to life with this playful new addition. Hopefully, the biting phase passes soon!
ReplyDeleteLeo, I have always thought about what it would be like to have a pet in college, particularly a young one (puppy or kitten especially). I would imagine that the biting is quite annoying but can't hurt too bad just because Boots is a kitchen. Also, that's gotta be the best cat name I've ever heard in my life (fan of Puss and Boots speaking here).
ReplyDeleteHey Leo, this sounds like so much fun! I also almost decided to take in a cat but backed out last minute. I have also always been a dog person but I do want to become a cat person also. I'm sure the biting will mellow out soon.
ReplyDeleteHi Leo welcoming a new kitten into your life is such a beautiful moment into your life especially when it is unexpected and ends up working out. I too am a dog person, and one day when we took our 2 dogs for grooming to PetSmart, we came back home with 2 shaved dogs and 1 cat so I truly think these pets always enter our lives when we least expect it. And even thought we doubt our ability to take care of them, they are honestly pretty low maintenance unlike dogs. Please post a picture of Boots to your blog one day :)
ReplyDeleteHi Leo, this was a fun and wholesome read! Boots sounds like a fun kitten that loves your attention haha. I'm curious, was Boots' name inspired by the Shrek character Puss in Boots? If so then that was very clever of your roommate!
